History of Boracay
Boracay is a small island in the Philppines, known for its beautiful and white beaches. Boracay is located about 315 kilometers south of Manila and 2 kilometers off the northwest tip of Panay island in Western Visayas. It is said that the word Boracay come from the local word borac; which means cotton. It refers to the colour and texture of Boracay’s white sand.
Attractions of Boracay
Boracay island is only seven kilometres long and one kilometre wide, yet there are lots of things/activities you can do (such as scuba-diving, horseback riding, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, cliff diving and many more) and amazing beaches to explore such as the following:
Boracay actually has 30 beaches and coves, but the biggest and most famous of them all is the White Beach, with its 4kms of the kind of powdery white sand and blue waters.The shoreline of White beach is full with restaurants, cafes, bars, souvenir stalls, shops and many more.
2. PUKA BEACH
Many tourists but also locals often describe Puka beach as a perfect tropical island beach, for it is quiet and simple, with white sand, palm groves and blue waters. Puka beach is fronted by a big cliff that stretches along the entire length of the beach. To reach Puka beach you can hire a chartered tricycle of rent a bike.
3. BULABOG BEACH
Bulabog beach is also called as ‘back beach‘, popular for water activities, such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, banana boat, flying fish rides and parasailing. This beach is just a walking distance (about 5-10 minutes) from White beach. You could find a number of good bars and restaurants alongside the beachfront of Bulabog beach, where you could relax and enjoy the nice view with beer or cocktail.
4. DINIWID BEACH
Diniwid is a small but beautiful beach near White Beach. For many, it is the Spider House Resort that makes the place fascinating. It has a resto-bar built on the side of a cliff, from there you could directly jump to the sea for swimming.
5. BALINGHAI BEACH
Like Diniwid beach, Balinghai is also a small Boracay Cove, where tourists can enjoy and relaxed in a peaceful environment. It is a great place for swimming, snorkeling and many more. The main attraction here is the restaurant on top of the cliff that overlooks the whole are and provides visitors a fascinating view of Boracay island.
Banyugan is a small and attractive beach (private beach of Shangri-La) only accessible via the Shangri-La Resort. This beach is framed by two big rock formations. Thanks to the integrated terraces on top of the left rock visitors can enjoy a great view of the island.
7. CRYSTAL COVE
Crystal Cove is a private beach island near Boracay. This island is famous for its two coves and white sand beaches, which offer great opportunities for swimming and snorkelling in the clear blue waters just off shore. Crystal cove island is also within easy reach of Caticlan. Getting there requires a boat ride from either Boracay or Caticlan.
8. TAMBISAAN BEACH
Tambisaan is a quiet, secluded beach situated on the southeastern part of the island. This island has various coral gardens, in fact it is the only beach in Boracay that has a huge amount of marine life.
